Events & Storytime

The Youth Department offers free drop-in storytimes throughout the week for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers. More than just a chance to have fun in the Library, our early literacy storytimes foster the five skills young children need to build their language skills:

Talking | Singing | Reading | Writing | Playing

Research shows that including these five simple activities into your child's everyday routine will help them grow into successful, happy readers – and storytime is a great place to learn new songs, fingerplays and get great book recommendations! Our librarians can help you find your child's next favourite story, or books to deal with important transitions like starting preschool.

In addition to literacy skills, valuable social learning also happens at storytime: your children can make new friends and you can connect with other parents and caregivers in your community.

Kids at I Spy TableAfter storytime, visit the picturebook circle in the Kids Area with your little one to indulge your imagination in our puppet theatre, hone motor skills with our selection of puzzles and magnet boards and play a visual game at our I Spy Table. The library is the perfect place for your little one to begin exploring the world around them.

We also offer Parent-Child Mother Goose which introduces adults and children to the pleasure of using rhymes, songs and stories together, puppet shows and other special events for our younger patrons. These programs are supported by a generous bequest from the estate of Robert Leslie Welsh, through the West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation.
